Write a two-page paper with a clear thesis that uses logic and evidence clearly and concisely to critique a recent published essay by a coalition merchant and show that the opposite argument is equally valid.

To write this paper, you should begin by finding an essay by a coalition merchant published within the last 12 months. Here are the examples I showed in class (you may not use these; find one of your own):

I strongly advise you email me the essay you find so I can confirm that it is appropriate for this assignment.  

Read the essay and figure out how the author argues that the two issues are connected, and why, from the author's perspective, people with one view on one of the issues should adopt a particular view on the other issue. Then, develop your own principled-sounding argument for why that connection is incorrect, and that actually the opposite argument is true. (In the above examples, for example, you would explain why feminists should support Israel's military action in Gaza, or why advocates of environmental Justice should oppose abortion rights, or why advocates of LGBTQ rights should oppose military aid for Ukraine.)

Your paper itself should be well-organized, with a clear thesis, and logic and evidence that supports that thesis. It should be concise, with clear sentence structure and well-developed paragraphs. 

You must write the paper yourself. You may not use an LLM or a service like grammarly to assist you. I advise using the resources of the peer advisors at the writing center, as well as each other. I would be happy to read outlines, topic paragraphs, or drafts, provided that you share them with me at least 72 hours before the due date.
